Lila-Mae-Brewer

Lila Mae Brewer went to Heaven on February 1, 2023 at the age of 98. She was at her home in Portland, TN, where she was born.

She was born on September 6, 1924 to her parents, Wade Hampton Jernigan and Beulah Hagan Jernigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert H. Brewer, Sr.; and her son, Robert H. Brewer Jr.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Brewer of Portland, TN.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Henderson(Richie) of Blaine, TN., John Brewer(Sissy) from Kingsport, TN., and Rachel Kavanagh(Sean) of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Clare, Audrey, Kaylen and Hallie.

Lila Mae was a devoted Christian wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Portland, TN, since 1937 and raised her family with Christian morals and values. Like most people of the “Greatest Generation”. honesty, integrity and hard work exemplified her life. Her church and family were most important in her life. But she also loved sewing, quilting, raising flowers, cooking and oil painting. She was a charter member of the West Portland Demonstration Club and was active throughout the clubs existence.

Her home was a combination of work, worship, joy, good food, caring and mostly in any way she could show love. We all loved her dearly and our loss is Heaven’s gain. She will be missed by all but we rejoice in Christ’s promise that we shall see each other again face to face someday soon. Praise be to God.
