Joe Stewart Cummings, 79, of Hendersonville, passed away on January 3rd, at NHC Hendersonville after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease and cancer.
He was the son of the late Lorene and Joe Cummings of Sparta, TN.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Cummings McClanahan (Curt) in Hendersonville and his son Joseph Michael Cummings (Trish) in Buford, GA. Grandchildren include Emma, Anna Claire, Blake, and JT. Sisters are Joan Dalton of Austin, TX, and Lorie McKinney (Rob) of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by 8 nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated from White County High School (Sparta, TN) in 1960 and the University of Tennessee in 1964 where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He worked for the Department of Labor and Workforce Development for 45 years. He was a member and past president of the Hendersonville Evening Sertoma supporting Hendersonville High School Athletics. Joe was a huge UT Vols fan and loved his Ford Mustangs.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. A heartfelt thank you to the therapy and nursing staff at NHC Hendersonville for their kindness and compassion.
