James Irven

James “Jim” Irven Kenyon III was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He left this world suddenly on February 8, 2022, at age 78.

Jim was born in Oklahoma City, OK on May 17, 1943, to James Irven Kenyon Jr. and Josephine Carr Kenyon.

Jim very much enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved being around people and never missed an opportunity to make a new friend. A perfect day for him was a sunny round of golf or driving the boat on Old Hickory Lake, but what brought him the most joy was sitting poolside in his backyard with family and friends. He was always ready for a good time and for many was the reason for a good time. There were always smiles and laughter wherever Jim was.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Kenyon.

He is survived by his six children and their spouses: Frances (Robert) Grosskopf, Carrie (Steve) Sobieski, James (Kristi Nelson) Irven Kenyon IV, Jessica (Trey Johnson) Kenyon, Jason Kenyon, and Timothy (Laura) Kenyon; nine grandchildren, Julie Sobieski, Robert Grosskopf, Brian Sobieski, Lindsey (Mike) Lynn, Kevin Sobieski, Collin Kenyon, Charlotte Kenyon, Henry Kenyon, and Emily Kenyon; three brothers, Thomas Kenyon, Michael Kenyon, and John Kenyon; and the mothers of his children, Cathleen Drury Rex, and Karen Grzanka Kenyon.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022, in the Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Tennessee Golf Foundation, located at Golf House Tennessee, 400 Franklin Road, Franklin, TN 37069 or www.tngolf.org.
