On August 19 and September 16, History Stonewall will once again be offering their Songs and Stories nights on the lawn. Each year they ask songwriters with unique stories to tell to come and share their music and the tales behind them. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m. with the opening band playing from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and the headliner playing from 8:00 p.m. until 9:15 p.m.

The headliner on August 19 will be Jake Clayton. Accompanied by his trio, he will share some of the songs he has written and the talent that brought him to Nashville where he has played for many of the top names in Country Music. Not bad for a kid born in the sticks of Missouri.

Clayton loved music so much as a child that he taught himself how to play 20 different instruments and has been said to play a dobro like no one else.

He began by traveling on the road as a background musician with entertainers such as Brad Paisley, Tanya Tucker, Brandi Carlile, Martina McBride and Keith Urban. Then he became a session musician, playing on albums for Chris Young, Donny Osmond, Sunny Sweeny, Joey + Rory and on Thompson Station’s award-winning album. He has opened on tour around the globe for stars such as Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Alan Jackson, Bob Seger, and Miranda Lambert. And he has played on television shows such as Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, and the CMT Awards.

“This will be a unique experience and a glimpse into my songwriting inspirations,” said Clayton on his Facebook page. “Get your tickets now. [I] can’t wait to see you there!”

September’s featured artist is to be announced.

Junior songwriters from Ovation Music and Studios in Gallatin will be providing music as the opening acts on both performance dates.

Dinner will be available on site from Mr. Southern’s Wings and More food truck. They will be selling wings, pulled pork fries, and more. Food Therapy will also be on site selling nachos, cotton candy, candy, chips, lemonade, slushies, and other treats. Half Batch Brewery will be selling their craft beer.

Stay on site. Stonewall is now available as an Airbnb. According to the Historic Stonewall Facebook page, Sumner County residents will get 25% off the accommodation price for their entire stay during the months of August, September and October in 2023.
