Ruth Archer Barron, 89, of Gallatin, Tennessee passed away at her home on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Ruth was born in Texas on October 27, 1933. Following the death of her mother, Thelma, her father, Arthur, accepted a position in Mississippi where she completed her primary education and then began college.

She met her husband Jim Barron at Mississippi State, and they married in 1954. They moved to Fayetteville, TN in Lincoln County where they had sons then moved back to Mississippi where two daughters were born.

Finally, the family of six moved to Gallatin where Coach Barron had been offered a position at Gallatin High School. Mrs. Barron was a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of all things at Gallatin High School. She enjoyed being a cheerleader sponsor, helping with theatre productions, and attending sporting events.

Throughout her life, she worked in various positions: clerical positions, kindergarten/daycare teacher, mother’s patrol, GHS guidance office, Hartsville Nuclear Plant, and finally at TVA’s Gallatin Steam Plant as a systems administrator. Mrs. Barron was an excellent typist, seamstress, and piano player.

She enjoyed playing bridge, competitive card games, and especially enjoyed her senior bowling league. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Jessica Barron, husband James E. “Jim” Barron, and sons Robert Paul “Bob” and James Allen “Jabbo” Barron.

She is survived by daughters Balinda (Nicky) Dorris and Maxie (Greg) Davis. Grandchildren Shannon (Sephas) Kombe, Joshua Barron, Jonathan Barron, Lacey (Chris) Sadler, Haley Dorris, and Christopher (Ashley) Johnson. Great-grandchildren: Pierre, Kaleb, Brody, Gavin, Braylynn, Bryson, CJ, Colton, Olivia, and Ezra.

Visitation will be at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center Saturday, January 21 from 10 am until 11:45 am. Graveside service will follow at 12 Noon at Sumner Memorial Gardens. https://www.alexandergallatin.com
