Richard Thurston Brown, age 94, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Preceded in death by his parents Fred Harding Brown and Gertrude McMahan Brown, his brother Fred Douglas Brown, daughter-in-law Melissa Brown, and the love of his life for over 70 years Evalyn Brown.

He is survived by his son Doug Brown, daughter Jan (Mike) Scudder, grandsons Mike (Deidre) Scudder, Matt (Karlie) Scudder, Aaron Brown, and Alex Brown; granddaughter Jessica (Peyton) Boshers, great grandchildren, Ella and Eli Boshers and Oaklyn Kate Scudder, brother Doyle (Linda) Brown, sister-in-law Lyndell Cowan along with many extended family and friends.

Richard was born on March 27, 1929, in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of the Church of Christ his entire life. He served for many years as a deacon at the Rosebank Church of Christ. He also served his country in the Korean War. He graduated from MTSU in 1956 and worked for the National Life Insurance Company where he won numerous top honors and trips and traveled the world with his beloved wife Evalyn.

After his retirement, he went back to playing tennis. He played singles until his late 80’s. He then started playing the piano. He loved to play hymns and Big Band music. He loved to read, work find a word puzzles, play canasta, solitaire, and Wahoo with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching his Atlanta Braves play.

Richard loved spending time with his family, and we were blessed to have him for so long. His family finds great comfort in knowing he is now with the Lord. He will be deeply missed every day until the Lord calls us home to forever be with him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 1 pm with Les Chapman and Keith Parker officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, from 4 pm-8 pm and again on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, 2 hours prior to service. Richard’s son Doug Brown, son-in-law Mike Scudder, brother Doyle Brown, and grandsons Mike Scudder, Matt Scudder, Aaron Brown, and Alex Brown will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Brown, Jason Hopper, Peyton Boshers, Buddy Traughber, Jack McMahan, and the Elders of the Hendersonville Church of Christ.
