OBITUARY: Marie Fryer

Marie Fryer, 97, passed away peacefully at her home on May 13, 2024.

She was born July 10, 1926 in rural Robertson County, TN, one of eight children of Oscar and Susie Fentress Castelow.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 78 years, Delwyn, in May 2022.

She is survived by her children, Sherry (Raymond) Georges and Joel (Renee) Fryer. Surviving grandchildren are Rebecca (Ryan) Ross, Vicki (Sean) Shinick, Chase (Christina) Fryer, and Zachary (Amanda) Fryer. Great-grandchildren include Levi, Shelby, and Bailey Ross; Sarah and Jake Shinick; Evie, James, and Finn Fryer; and Everett Fryer. She has a surviving sister, Betty Jean Lowrey of Hendersonville, along with several nieces and nephews.

Marie married Delwyn Fryer in 1944 and they loved and cared for one another over the next 78 years. When Delwyn became a United Methodist Minister, Marie fully embraced the role of the consummate minister’s wife, telling new congregations they were appointed to that they were getting a “package deal”. She worked joyfully and tirelessly alongside Delwyn during their nearly 60-year ministry. She was always a beloved personality of every church they served, having made enduring friendships across Middle Tennessee.

Visitation will be Monday, May 20th in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church Gallatin from 10:00 to 11:00, followed by a worship service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels C/O Gallatin First United Methodist Church, 149 West Main Street, Gallatin, TN 37066.
