Richard Archer “Dicky” Keffer, Jr of Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024 in Nashville, TN.

He was born in Louisville, KY to Dr. Richard Archer Keffer, Sr and Beverly Bishop Keffer, but considered Scottsville KY his hometown.

Born October 27, 1956, the same year his father helped the University of Louisville Men’s Basketball team to a NIT National Championship, basketball was in Dicky’s DNA. Some of his fondest childhood memories were playing ball with his Dad, his younger brother, Bobby, his cousins and his many friends. He was a decorated 3-sport athlete at Scottsville High School, and signed with Vanderbilt University Men’s Basketball in 1974 where he started at point guard alongside the “F Troop”.

Dicky was a kind soul who treated everyone equally and cared deeply about those in his life. He was quick-witted and had an uncanny way with words, whether it was in his storytelling or his personalized poems. He will be remembered for his natural ability to make everyone feel special.

Dicky is survived by his devoted daughter, Kathryn Keffer Carver (Billy Paul); his former spouse, Melinda Smith Keffer; his sidekick and dog, Miller; and his cousins and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Richard Archer Keffer, Sr and Beverly Bishop Keffer, his brother Robert “Bobby” Keffer (Lori); his grandparents and two uncles.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville.
