James William McDougal, age 88, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 11th, 2023.

James was born in Hendersonville, Tennessee to parents, Marshall and Jettie McDougal, on August 27th, 1935.

James is preceded in death by his father Marshall McDougal, mother Jettie McDougal nee. Piper, wife Vada Ruth McDougal, sister Thelma Ayers, and sister Jean Link.

He is survived by his brother Billy (Millie) McDougal, sister Janice (Billy) Baskerville, son Michael (Joanne) McDougal, daughter Roxanne Barron, and daughter Lisa Wilson. James is also survived by his grandchildren, Jay Brown, Kristan Brake, and Marshall McDougal, as well as two great-grandchildren, Conner Brake and Vada Brown.

James McDougal was said to have been a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who were fortunate enough to know him. A Christian man, he enjoyed reading the bible and was a member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He was the type of person to put others needs before his own. A philanthropist at heart, he cared deeply for those around him.

James was a veteran of the United States Army. After his time in the service, he dedicated his efforts to opening his own auto repair shop. Since the 1960’s James has taken care of the community’s vehicles with the utmost care and concern.

When he wasn’t working, James liked to spend his time out on the water. An avid fisherman, he didn’t mind if he was fishing on the shoreline or in a boat, he just appreciated being able to fish without a care in the world.

One thing that meant more to him than fishing, was being able to spend time with his family. He would always make sure that they were taken care of.

He had a love of food, and was known for cooking his sweet potato casserole, dressing, and fried pies. He never liked it when the children went hungry. Although he is gone, he is not forgotten.
