Dwight L. “Marty” Martz, age 77, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
Marty was born on August 24, 1945 in Charlotte, NC to Sam and Clella Martz.
Marty graduated from Stratford High School in Nashville. After graduating, he joined the Army and became part of the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles”, proudly serving his country for over six years.
Marty was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous celebrating over 24 years (8872 days) of sobriety – sober until the end. Through AA, Marty helped, mentored, and supported countless people through their journey to sobriety.
Marty is preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth Martz, and his parents.
He is survived by his children Mark Graybill, Shellie Foxx, Missy (Torrey) Thorsell, Sam Martz, and Lydia (Justin) Jacobs; grandchildren Stephanie Carlson, Christopher (Sokheng) Graybill, Aaron Graybill, Chelsea (Alonzo) Willis, Keila Holmes, Bryson Jacobs, Jaxon Jacobs, Victoria Thorsell, Everleigh Thorsell, and Isabella Thorsell; great-grandchildren Grayson Allen, Levi Willis, Liheng Graybill, and Leroy Graybill.
In addition, he is survived by his sister Rita (Hank) McGuffey; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends LaVerne Tripp and Thomas Miller; and his dogs Sissy and Bogart.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 2 pm-4 pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will begin at 4 pm. https://www.hendersonvillefh.com
