After battling Alzheimer’s disease for over ten years, Betty Troutt Wright, 85 of Portland, TN, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Oak Hill Senior Living in Portland, TN.

She was born on May 11, 1938, to the late Russell L. Troutt and Iva Rippy Troutt in the Providence community of Sumner County.

Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Evan Vickers Wright, Jr., son Rusty Wright, and sisters Mary Allison and Frances Seavey.

She is survived by her daughters, Robin (Joey) Venable and Rhonda (Cy) Hill. Betty also leaves behind grandsons Carder Venable, Tytus Hill, and Ky (Jordyn) Hill; granddaughters Katie Venable, Laurie (Alan) Carman, and Leia (Alex) Vieira; and great-grandchildren Mary Alice Carman, Kennedy Hill, Weston Hill, Morgan Vieira, and Michael Vieira.

Betty graduated as Salutatorian of the Westmoreland High School Class of 1956 and loved attending her class reunions. In her senior year, she was elected cheerleader and FFA queen. Betty worked for almost 30 years as a school nutritionist at Watt Hardison Elementary School and served as the cafeteria manager for several years.

Besides being a wonderful cook, she loved sewing and crocheting and was always working on a new Afghan or bedspread. After retirement, “Noona” and her husband, JR (as she fondly called him) loved spending time with their grandsons Carder and Tytus who became their lifeline when they tragically lost their son, Rusty, in 2000.

The family expresses their sincere thanks and gratitude to Shanna Wheeler and the Oak Hill Senior Living staff for the excellent care that they provided to Betty for over seven years. The family also extends a special expression of appreciation to Jackie Poole at OHSL who cared for and treated Betty like a member of her own family.

Visitation for Mrs. Wright will be held at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home on Monday, May 15, from 4-8 pm and on Tuesday, May 16, from 11 am until the funeral at 3 pm. Following the service internment will be at Fairfield Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carder Venable, Tytus Hill, Cy Hill, Joey Venable, Mark Kiracofe and Jack Kiracofe, with the Oak Hill Senior Living Staff serving as honorary pallbearers. https://www.wilkinsonwiseman.com
