Barbara Thomas Burton, age 86 of Hendersonville and formerly of Madison, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on May 1, 1936 in the Willette community of Macon County, Tennessee to the late William Campbell Thomas and the late Katherine Ophile Dixon Thomas.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Glenn Burton; daughters, Tyra Burton Shelton, Talisa Cowden (Jeff), and Tania Bodiford (Phil); grandchildren, Micah Howell Gentry (Chris), Zack Howell (Shelley), Colby Shelton (Erin), Corey Huddleston (Jeremy), Caitlyn Radford, Keaton Bodiford Mims (Eric), Sloan Bodiford Shaw (Michael), and Lieren Bodiford Kennedy (Kyle); and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Maisley, Cayden, Layne, Brance, Addalyn, Ella, Sophia, Julie, Elliot, Dorian, Alistair, Lennox, Arlowe, and Tatum.
Barbara was born in Macon County but raised in Nashville. She was a longtime resident of Madison, Tennessee where she and her beloved soldier and husband of 68 years, Glenn, raised their family. Barbara was a longtime member of the Neely’s Bend Church of Christ where she taught the 2 year old Sunday School Class for 25 years.
She enjoyed many things including gardening, cooking, entertaining, reading, history, and sewing-her girls and their Barbie dolls were always the best dressed. Barbara loved many things but most importantly she loved God and her family, she was a proud “Baba” to her 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she adored.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation Lakeside in Hendersonville with Bro. Mike Tidwell officiating. Interment will follow in Beech Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. and Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service.
