While it began as a joke on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” Galentine’s Day has become a real thing and, like May 4 becoming Star Wars Day and September 8 becoming Star Trek Day, it is listed on the National Day calendar. It is February 13, 2024.
The writers of “Parks and Recreation” had character Leslie Knope celebrate the day with her girlfriends over a brunch filled with waffles and gift-giving. With female friendships becoming more and more celebrated, the holiday has taken off with many businesses picking up on it by offering special activities and group packages for ladies to celebrate their friendship, and to keep single women from feeling shut out by Valentine’s Day.
As it says on nationaltoday.com, “Galentine’s Day is to Valentine’s Day what Friendsgiving is to Thanksgiving: a chance to recognize the impact that our friends have on our lives and thank them for their steadfast loyalty, love, and laughter.”
