Bleachers at Beech High School football stadium collapsed overnight on August 15, 2023.

According to Dr. Scott Langford with Sumner County Schools, the middle section of the visitor side bleachers collapsed possibly due to a combination of wind and heavy rain that has occurred over the last few days.

The school district says a structural engineer will examine the home bleachers at BHS, out of an abundance of caution, on Wednesday morning to ensure they are safe. Immediately after checking the BHS home bleachers, the engineer will then inspect all the bleachers in Sumner County.

Recommendations to all school bleachers will be made to the school board after the report is reviewed to address any needed repairs.

Temporary bleachers are planned to be installed at BHS in time for Friday’s game.

“We will update the community regarding Friday’s game versus Station Camp High School once these assessments are complete. Our goal is to have everything ready for Friday night’s game against Station Camp at Beech; however, we are also working on a contingency plan to move the game to an alternate site if necessary. We will notify parents by Thursday if the game will be played at an alternate location. We are thankful for the community’s patience and understanding as we work to address this issue as quickly but also as safely as possible. I am deeply thankful to Mr. Powell and the Beech High School team for their quick response this morning,” Dr. Langford stated.
