Virgil Ray York, age 81 of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Virgil was born January 26, 1942 in Nashville, TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Estel Ray and Frances Rader York and granddaughter, Mai Thomas York.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Cynetha Locke York; children, Kevin York (Angela), Valentina Samples (Timothy) and Trevor York; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Rowland (Robby), Savannah Wood (Hayden), Keaton Samples, Kyler Samples, Claire Rowland, Finley Wood and Millie Rowland.
Virgil was owner of York’s Bi-Rite & Food Town from 1967 to 1992. He served on the board of directors of Bi-Rite & Food Town for 30 years. Virgil was a member of College Heights/Gracepoint Church and a former member of the Gallatin Lions Club. Virgil enjoyed fishing, walking horses and was a private pilot. He was devoted to his church and his family. Virgil and Cynetha were foster parents for 20 newborn babies over a period of 20 years.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12th from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Mark Grubb officiating. Interment will follow in Sumner Memorial Gardens with Keaton Samples, Kyler Samples, Tim Samples, Anthony Witt, Robby Rowland and Hayden Wood serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 11th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, April 12th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
