Pat Lindsey Webb, age 92, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Pat Lindsay Webb was born May 30, 1932, to Manie and Bob Webb in Stewart Tennessee. He was the youngest of six children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-Jesse Harper, Peggy Ridings, Helen Brewer, and one brother Bill Webb.
He is survived by wife of 69 years, Ruby Cook Webb, daughters, Melissa Webb Nolen, (Billy), Michelle Webb Scruggs (Gene), and son, Scott Lindsey Webb (Amy). Grandchildren: Lindsey Nolen Wells (Max), Carly Webb Tomkins (Dooby), Taylor Nolen (Natalie), Heather Webb Hays (Justin), and Spencer Webb (Shelley). Great grandchildren: Jillian Baldis, Harrison, Hadley, Henry, and Hannah Hays, Titus and Jaxon Nolen, and Damien Webb. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Pat entered the Navy in 1951 after graduating high school and spent four years in service during the Korean War. He played on the Navy baseball team where he was voted the most valuable player in the NAS special services. He married Ruby Cook in 1955, and they moved to Michigan for work. They soon returned to Tennessee for Pat to enter college at Austin Peay State University. By this time, he and Ruby had two girls. Pat drove a school bus while attending college and graduated in 1961 with a BS degree in education.
The Webb family moved to Gallatin where Pat took a job at Vena Stuart as a PE teacher, basketball and football coach from 1961 to 1963. In 1963 he began teaching shop and coaching basketball and football at the newly built Gallatin Jr. High. In 1965, Pat and Ruby welcomed their third child, Scott Lindsey Webb. In 1967, Pat became the assistant principal at Gallatin Jr. High.
In his spare time, Pat coached the babe ruth baseball team called Byron‘s. While still being the assistant principal at Gallatin Jr. High, he began to coach the Gallatin High School girls’ basketball team and assist with football and baseball in 1969. In 1972 he became the principal at Guild Elementary School while continuing to coach the girls’ basketball team at Gallatin High School. In 1973, he took a teaching position as head of the co-op program at Gallatin High School while continuing to coach. From 1981 to 1993, Pat was principal at Union Elementary School. In 1986, he earned his master’s degree +30 from MTSU. He retired from the Sumner County Board of Education in 1993 after 32 years. In 1994, the Sumner County Board of Education hired him to be the head of the maintenance department for one year.
Pat served on the county commission from 1972 to 1998 for 26 years. He was chairman of the county commissioners from 1992 to 1998. In 1986, Pat served on the Sumner Regional Hospital board for 10 years. He was also a member of the King Solomon Lodge no. 6 and a basketball official and baseball umpire for the TSSA for many years.
Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening. He loved to listen to Willy’s Roadhouse and Boots Randolph. Camping with the Herron‘s, Barron’s, and Vradenburg’s were some of his fondest memories. He has had the privilege of coaching with some of the best coaches. Beginning with Collins Brown, who helped him coach the Vena Stuart team, Ray McDonald, Ray Barnes; Don Porter, Jim Barron, Calvin Short, Jerry Vradenburg, Joe Malone, Richard Stephenson, and Jerry Lumpkins were just to name a few. They became like family to him.
Pat attended First Baptist Church in Gallatin. He was baptized there in 1968 along with Ruby, Melissa, and Michelle. He was a faithful Sunday School member of the Faith and Works class. He was known as a husband, father, teacher, principal, squire, friend, and coach. He was a loving, fun family man and he will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to thank all of the medical personnel for their caring support during Pat’s illness: Dr. Henry Lau, Dr. Benjamin Ferrell, Dr. Reginald Dickerson, Andrea Martin PA, Dr. Dianna Shipley, the radiation oncology team at Sumner Station, the nurses and physicians at Highpoint Health at Sumner, Anova Medical Associates and High Point hospice care. We would especially like to thank the members of First Baptist Church for their love, support, and friendship during this difficult time.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 31st at First Baptist Church Gallatin from 10 o’clock until the time of service. Service will be at First Baptist Church at 1 o’clock led by Pastor Travis Fleming. Graveside Service, with Military Honors, will be at Crestview Memory Gardens following the service.
