Nannie Elizabeth Barr, age 93, of Gallatin, TN passed away on August 21st, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Nannie was born in Gallatin, TN to parents Herschel and Nettie Lyles on October 10th, 1930. She left behind a legacy woven with love, strength, and an unwavering spirit that touched many.

Nannie was a woman of strong Christian faith. She was a long-time member of the Gallatin First Baptist Church on Winchester Street, attending services until she was no longer able. She drew her strength from the Lord as he carried her through a life filled with a steadfast love and dedication to the ones she loved.

Nannie’s love for her family was unrivaled. They were the cornerstone of her existence, and she loved and cherished them more than anything else. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, but to her community as well. She was known to volunteer at polling booths during election times, embodying civic duty and community involvement.

Known for her immaculate outfits and signature high heels, Nannie was truly a fashionista at heart. Her flair for style was matched only by her demeanor; she had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcomed and at ease in her presence. Nannie was a vibrant soul, deeply independent yet inherently caring, balancing her nurturing ways with an unyielding strength of will. She transcended the ordinary, transforming everyday moments into cherished memories for all who were privileged to know her.

Her garden reflected her vivacity; she spent countless hours outdoors, tending to her flowers, as they blossomed just as she did in the hearts of those around her. Additionally, Nannie had a profound love for literature. She found joy in both reading and writing, crafting poetry that spoke her heart, even celebrating the honor of seeing one of her poems published.

She is preceded in death by her parents Herschel and Nettie Lyles, and her brother Herschel Lyles Jr.

Nannie is survived by her children Sandra Barr, Pamela Barr, and Steve Barr (Satonya). She is also survived by her grandchildren L’Zabrien Thurman, Stefan Barr, Whisper Barr, and Sayona Barr. Nannie also leaves behind her brother Douglass P. Lyles Sr., niece and nephews Phillip, Douglass Jr., Charles and Patricia, as well as her great-niece Morgan.

As her loved ones surrounded her in those final moments, they can all be comforted knowing that her life was a rich tapestry woven with joy, resilience, and unwavering love.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Nannie’s remarkable life during visitation at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center (located at 584 Nashville Pike) in Gallatin, TN. Visitation will be held on August 30th, 2024, beginning at 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Interment to be held at Sumner Memorial Gardens (located at 420 Albert Gallatin Rd., Gallatin, TN 37066) immediately following the funeral service.

Nannie Elizabeth Barr may have departed this world, but her spirit, kindness, and love will forever resonate within the hearts of those who were graced by her presence.
