Georgia Francis Lane

Mrs. Georgia Francis Lane, age 72, of Portland, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

She was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on September 15, 1949, to the late Alvis Dee and Grace Mae (Higginbotham) Justice. Georgia was preceded in death by her two beloved sisters.

Georgia is survived by her loving husband of almost 51 years, Larry Lane of Portland. She was also a wonderful mother to her daughter and two sons, Michelle (Chris) Kellum of Cottontown, Corey (Stacy) Lane of Portland, and Kyle (April) Lane of Portland. In addition, she was a much loved Nana to her grandchildren, Meagan Kellum, Colby Lane, Anna Kellum, Cayden Lane, Zack Kellum, and Kinley Lane. She also had many nieces and nephews.

In her role as Nana, she spent a good portion of the last 21 years enjoying caring for her grandchildren and attending their many events. No matter the sport, the weather, or the distance, the kids knew that Nana would be in the stands or on the sideline cheering on the team. No matter how big they had grown, the grandkids were always welcome in her home and lap. She loved to snuggle, kept her pantry stocked with all the kid’s favorite foods, and a closet full of toys and games.

Georgia also spent many years as a teacher’s assistant with Sumner County Schools. She was a long-time member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church, where she has served in many positions, mainly supporting the church’s youth. Everyone who knew her considered her a friend. Friends of her grandkids often called her Nana. As a wife, mother, Nana, and friend, she lovingly created a home that was both welcoming and beautiful.

The family will receive visitors at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 10, and Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service for Mrs. Georgia Lane will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Scott officiating.

Colby Lane, Cayden Lane, Zack Kellum, Jimmy Craig, Chris Kellum, & Stan Hallett will serve as honorary pallbearers.

For those who wish, memorial donations can be sent to Union Chapel General Baptist Church at PO Box 7731, Portland, Tennessee, 37148.
