On April 25th, 2022, following 67 years of life well-lived, Gail Hicks Getzen entered into the presence of the God she loved. As her family stood around her, telling stories and laughing, Gail slipped quietly and peacefully off to her true Home.
She’s preceded by her parents, Nick and Milly.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; daughters, Amy and Christi; sons-in-law, Lorne and Shayne; grandchildren, Sam and Jackson; and siblings, Holly Elliff, Kitty Lynn Deal, and David Hicks.
Gail lived life rejoicing in all the good gifts of God; enjoying her family, friends, and acquaintances; traveling the world with Jimmy; creating children’s musicals and writing Bible studies to accompany them; delighting in the beauty of creation, and serving others with her creative gifts. Gail’s writing reached more than three-quarters of a million children with the good news of Jesus and the truth of His Word. The ripples of her life crossed the globe. She made friends wherever she went—and her travels took her to all seven continents. Her gentle witness allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life.
Gail was known for her infectious laughter, sincere interest in others, compassion for the suffering, deep heart of prayer (which never left her—even at the peak of her struggle with Vascular Dementia), her beautiful singing voice, her bright mind, and her devoted love of her family.
Gail loved a party, and while we miss her terribly, we are so delighted that she’s entered the greatest Party of them all. Because of the hope of Jesus, we eagerly look forward to the day when we rejoice with her there too.
Gail’s Celebration of Life service will be held on her birthday, May 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Redeemer Church (177 Bonita Parkway, Hendersonville, TN 37075). Please dress casually and cheerfully. The service will be livestreamed as well. Live Stream Link
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Research Hospital in honor of Gail’s great-nephew, Carter Rogers.
