Champ “Pops” Bennet McClain, age 71 of Cottontown went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at St. Thomas West.
He was born September 6, 1950 in Celina, TN to Milas & Dorothy McBride McClain.
He was employed as a truck driver for Sharp Transport before his retirement. He loved driving his big truck, riding his lawnmower, camping, hunting, spending time outdoors, and having barbecues. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed baseball and football but was an avid White House Blue Devils football fan.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marlin McClain.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie McClain, Cottontown, TN; son, Scotty (Tami) McClain, Cross Plains, TN; daughter, Selena Vanatta, Cottontown, TN; brothers, Randall (Nancy) McClain, Hermitage Springs, TN and Dennis (Anita) McClain, Celina, TN; sisters, Gail (Ronnie) Long, Gainesboro, TN, Betty (Gary) Plumlee, Celina, TN, Hilda (Doug) Pruitt, Louisville, KY, Elaine Stafford and Kay (Jerry) Scott, both of Celina, TN and Virginia “Gin” (Dale) Scantland, Gainesboro, TN; 3 grandchildren, Cale McClain, Wyatt Walter, and Carter McClain.
Funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 2 pm in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in White House with Bro. Ray Biggs officiating. Interment will follow in White House Memorial Gardens with Wyatt Walter, Cale McClain, Carter McClain, Randall McClain, Dennis McClain, Adam Briley, Jeffrey Palmer, and Randy Briley serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family is planned for Saturday, October 23, 2021 2-8 pm, and Sunday, October 24, 2021 12noon until the hour of the service at Austin & Bell White House.
