Annamma Chacko, age 91, passed away on January 31, 2024, in Gallatin, TN. A woman who dedicated her life to the care and well-being of others.

Born on December 5, 1932, in Uzhavoor, India, Annamma was a remarkable individual whose compassion and commitment made a profound impact on those around her.

Annamma is preceded in death by her parents Mathew and Anna Chekkapara, her four sisters and one brother, her third son Ajith Chacko, and her loving husband of almost 60 years Chacko Valacheril.

She is survived by her son Simon (Elsi) Chacko Valacheril of Huston, TX, son Alex (Maicy) Chacko Valacheril of Australia, daughter Pushpa (Pradeep) Kappil of Dallaz, TX, and son Dileep (Manu) Jacob Valacheril of Nashville, TN. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Anjally (Allen) Simon Veluparambil, Ajith Alex, Alfred Alex, Abbey Kappil, Albey Kappil, Alfred Kappil, Delisha Valacheril, and Marlon Valacheril, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In her early twenties, Annamma pursued her passion for healthcare and obtained a nursing degree. Little did she know that this would be the start of an incredible journey that spanned over six and a half decades. As a nurse, Annamma selflessly attended to the needs of countless individuals, bringing comfort and relief during their most vulnerable times. Her skills as a midwife were especially exceptional, as she joyfully welcomed more than 600 babies into the world throughout her career.

Annamma’s dedication to her profession extended far beyond simply providing medical assistance. She possessed an unwavering work ethic that inspired those who had the privilege of knowing her. Known for her tireless efforts and undying commitment to excellence, Annamma became a beacon of hope within her community. Her colleagues considered her an invaluable member of their team, always turning to her for guidance and support.

While Annamma poured herself into her work, she also found immense joy in spending time with her family. Her family and friends held a special place in their hearts for their beloved “Annauntie” or “Annamanurse.” They were captivated by her nurturing spirit and infectious personality. Every gathering was made brighter by Annamma’s presence as she shared stories, offered advice, and showered them with love.

Raised in the Catholic faith, Annamma was an ardent believer who found solace in attending church. Throughout her life, she cultivated a deep connection with spirituality, finding comfort in prayer and reflection. Even when circumstances prevented her from physically attending mass later in life, she cherished the opportunity to watch from her home, soaking in the sermons and finding peace in the rituals that brought her closer to God.

Annamma will always be remembered for her indomitable spirit, her warmth, and the hospitality she extended to all who crossed her path. Her caring nature touched the lives of countless patients, leaving an enduring legacy in the field of healthcare. Her dedication to her family has left an indelible mark on their hearts, and they will forever cherish the memories they created together. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that her love and care will be remembered for generations to come.
