HighPoint Orthopedic Associates, a clinic of HighPoint Health Partners, welcomes Nicholas Dantzker, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine to this multi-disciplinary team of providers. Dr. Dantzker has begun accepting new patients at his Gallatin office and is on medical staff at Sumner Regional Medical Center.

Once a team physician for Columbia University, Fordham University, the New York City Football Club (Major League Soccer), and the New York Yankees baseball team, Dr. Dantzker’s vast experience in treating sports-related injuries will help patients of all ages keep active and moving. His experience will also help Sumner Regional build the foundation for a reimagined sports medicine program for the Sumner County region, focusing on young, collegiate, club sport and adult athletes of all skill levels.

“If you are active and seek to improve yourself physically, you are an athlete,” said Dr. Danztker. “Athletes have unique needs and are very attuned to their bodies. My goal is to help people reach their goals, through prevention, medical evaluation and treatment, rehabilitation, and if necessary, surgery.”

Dr. Dantzker says he has wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon since he was 15 years old. He was an avid athlete growing up, playing soccer and basketball year-round as a child and teenager and going on to play rugby in college. Through his various sports injuries, he had many interactions with orthopedic surgeons and was fascinated by their knowledge and expertise, leading him to pursue orthopedic medicine.

Dr. Dantzker attended undergraduate school at Stanford University, attained his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Vanderbilt Medical Center, and finished with a Fellowship at the Columbia University Center for Shoulder, Elbow, and Sports Medicine where he honed his skills.

He is the recipient of multiple research grants for his work on adhesive capsulitis, or frozen shoulder, and distal radius fractures, one of the most common bone fractures occurring near the wrist. He is also the author of several peer-reviewed research publications and book chapters.
