On Saturday, May 13, 2024, the Down Syndrome Association of Middle Tennessee (DSAMT) will be hosting a very special Mother’s Day Brunch at 11:00 a.m. for the mothers of individuals with Down syndrome. The event will take place at the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Café at 1176 Nashville Pike in Gallatin.

The Chocolate Covered Strawberry Café has been serving Gallatin since 2006. They are well known for serving gourmet soups, salads and sandwiches with a complimentary chocolate-covered strawberry served on every plate as garnish.

Every sandwich has its own tasty twist. The “Popeye Pumpernickel” is shaved turkey, provolone, tomato and cucumber served on swirl rye bread topped with creamy spinach spread. Their “Nut Your Classic” ham and cheese is served on wheatberry bread with a creamy raspberry pecan spread. The hot “Monte Cristo” has ham, turkey, swiss and strawberry preserves served on a grilled croissant topped with powdered sugar and served with a side of maple syrup for dipping. And the unique “Pizza Sandwich” is a toasted hoagie bun slathered with marinara, and then topped with ham, salami, pepperoni and provolone cheese. This is only a sampling of their many sandwich offerings, some served hot and others cold.

They also have a selection of soup, salads, quiche and a vast offering of sides. Sides include classic Southern tea room salads like pretzel salad, frozen salad and broccoli salad, as well as a small chopped salad, potato salad and pasta salad.

Even with the chocolate-covered strawberry served on every plate, be sure to save room for their mouth-watering desserts. This is a great time of year for their Strawberry Shortcake. They also offer Chocolate Pudding Cake, White Chocolate Cheese Cake, Apple Cake, Turtle Cheesecake and Cookie Bars. Additionally, They are bringing in freshly made  Tiramisu Croissants, Chocolate Braids, and Cannolis from The Guilty Grind.

Made from scratch every day, their Strawberry Lemonade uses fresh strawberry purée. Each batch is made the old-fashioned way – by hand and with love.  Summertime favorite, fruit tea, is also on the menu, along with an assortment of non-alcoholic mocktails and soft drinks.

Said one online reviewer, “The Chocolate Covered Strawberry is for me one of those places I … look forward to celebrating special occasions with my girlfriends. The food is delicious — I highly recommend the Trio Sampler — the staff is helpful and kind, and the prices are affordable.”

“I always bring my granddaughters here when I am babysitting in Hendersonville,” said another reviewer. “This is our favorite place to eat!! Love the chocolate covered strawberries so much, as well as the wonderful chicken salad. Everything on [the] menu is delicious !!!”

A favorite all year long, the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Café has inviting indoor and outdoor seating. For this DSAMT event, a reservation is required, as seating is limited. Reservations can be made here.

DSAMT is a community of parents, grandparents, siblings, physicians, educators, professionals, friends, and self-advocates from 40 counties in Middle Tennessee who celebrate and support individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Members envision a world in which individuals with Down syndrome are accepted, included, and valued for the extraordinary gifts they bring to everyone’s lives.

Additional genetic material alters the course of development of a fetus and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome.

In May, the DSAMT Kàvè Coffee Talk will not take place. The Mother’s Day Brunch will take the place of the regular monthly coffee activity.
