Howard E. Kirby passed away on April 21, 2024. He was born on March 24, 1935, in Robertson County, Tennessee. Howard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose impact will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Howard found joy in simple pleasures such as bird watching, gardening, fishing, and playing the harmonica. His kind and helpful nature earned him the reputation of being the “best man who walked the face of the earth.” He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and held his family in the highest regard. Howard was a longtime mechanic and retired from the State of Tennessee.

In celebrating his life and legacy, Howard is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Jane Kirby; sons Russell Kirby (Donna) and Sammy Kirby (Beth); grandchildren Stacy Ennis, Jarrett Kirby (Colleen), Candace Campbell (Will), and KerriBeth Cathey (Jud); granddaughter-in-law Jenna Kirby; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Edward Kirby; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Jarrett and Alberta Kirby; sons Howard E. Kirby Jr. and Buddy Kirby; grandson Justin Kirby; brother Ray Kirby; and sister Cornelia Shreeve.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 2:30 P.M. from the Chapel of Sumner Funeral & Cremation with Pastor Travis Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, April 26th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.

Howard E. Kirby’s proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his family, whom he loved unconditionally. He will be remembered for his generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for those closest to him. May he rest in peace knowing that he made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
