1The Importance of Being Earnest at HPAC

Sunday, March 30, 2pm
Hendersonville Performing Arts Center
260 W Main St, Hendersonville
Picture this: Victorian high society, but make it wildly, hilariously chaotic. Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ is a sparkling comedy of manners, where deception is an art form and social climbing a competitive sport. Two charming gentlemen, each burdened with the delightful necessity of a double life, find their romantic schemes entangled in a web of mistaken identities and delicious absurdities. Expect razor-sharp wit, delivered with a theatrical flourish, as the formidable Lady Bracknell presides over a world of cucumber sandwiches and shocking revelations. Is it ‘Ernest’ or merely earnestness that captures the heart? And what, pray tell, is the significance of a handbag? This is a play that revels in its own delightful artifice, a testament to Wilde’s genius for exposing the delightful absurdities of our own carefully constructed facades. Prepare for an evening of laughter, intrigue, and a healthy dose of social satire, all wrapped in the elegant language of a true master.
