Sumner County Jury Convicts Man In Deadly 2023 Shooting

A Sumner County jury has found a defendant guilty in connection with a May 29, 2023, shooting outside General Tire in Gallatin that left one person dead. The verdict came Friday following a four-day trial.

A man was arrested in connection to the deadly Memorial Day shooting, which occurred between 7:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. in the area of Red River Road. Police later located the suspect vehicle overnight.

Prosecutors expressed gratitude to the Gallatin Police Department for its swift response and detailed investigation, as well as to the jurors for their careful consideration of the case.

Assistant District Attorneys Tara Wyllie and Leticia Alexander prosecuted the case in partnership with Gallatin Police officers. Victim-Witness Coordinators Jennifer Woodard and Sally Pirtle were also recognized for their support to the victim’s family, witnesses, and the prosecution team.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 8. The Sumner County District Attorney’s Office said it will continue to pursue the maximum penalty allowed under Tennessee law while standing up for victims and ensuring community safety.
