Ernest Freeman Thompson, age 86, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on October 27, 2025. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in the chapel of Sellars Family Heritage Funeral Home in Gallatin, With Reverend Kevin Rector and Reverend Michael Blankenship officiating.
The family will be receiving family and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 29 from 11:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 30, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lynn Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sheila Thompson; daughters, Lisa Hodges(Paul) and Alicia Milligan(Bryant) of Gallatin; brother, Sam Thompson of Decatur; sisters, Cindy Smith(Jerry) of Bethpage; grandchildren Tyler Milligan(Nichole), Chelsea Wolfe(Hunter), and Callie Hodges; great-grandchild, Leyton Milligan. Pallbearers will be Tyler Milligan, Leyton Milligan, Ronald Trout, Ronnie Tennant, Wayne Philips, Tracy Martin, James Martin, and Kenney Williams.
Mr. Thompson was a devoted member of the Gallatin First Church of the Nazarene for the majority of his life. He served on the Church Board, taught youth boys Sunday School, and was instrumental in the development of the bus Ministry in the early years. Freeman was greatly involved in his community and supported many civic endeavors. Along with his career in tool and die, he established a real estate office and was a BBQ Pit Master.
Mr. Thompson retired from a career in the field of tool and die where he worked fulltime until the age of 82. He loved raising a garden, sharing his crops with his community and loved spending his time supporting his grandchildren and great grandchild. Freeman enjoyed spending time outdoors, by the lake, listening to great music, musicians and loved laughter. He loved to tinker with old machinery, spend time in the shop restoring his Mustang, but could always be found rooting for the University of Tennessee and the Green Waves.
