UPDATE: The Sumner County Commission approved the budget during Monday’s Special Called meeting.
The Schools’ budget passed (A10: 16-5-1) and the County budget (2408s-02: 16-6) was amended to include the $5.4 million in one-time capital funds (A6: 14-8) for athletic facilities, capital project, and school safety needs.
According to News 2, attendees of Monday night’s meeting included parents and school officials who expressed their concerns on the matter, adding that the school board should assist in funding the county’s neglected high school stadiums.

On Monday evening (August 12) at 6 PM, the Sumner County Commission will vote on the school budget.
In addition to a $28.9 million increase in employee compensation (the largest in Sumner County history), the budget includes a $22 million investment in capital projects with a request for the commission to contribute an additional $5.4 million for athletic facilities, capital project, and school safety needs.
These projects include:
– BHS, HHS, and PHS football stadiums
– GHS track and football stadium improvements
– SCHS track and football field irrigation & drainage
– MHMS tennis courts
– Future planning for facilities at GHS, PHS, WHHS, and WHS
– Exterior work at North Sumner Elementary School
– 50+ AEDs for schools
– School Buses
– Paving, Roofing, HVAC, Lighting, and other projects
– Continued investment in fine arts
– Continued safety enhancements in schools across the county
