Vina Stamper Beck “Grandmom”, 86, of Gallatin, TN, passed away in the early morning of July 25, 2026, at the Capstone at Station Camp, Gallatin, TN.
Born March 6, 1940 in Roxana, KY, Vina graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1957. She attended Eastern Kentucky University and later earned her degree from the University of Louisville in 1969, where she also completed her master’s degree and continued doctoral studies. She worked at GE Appliances to put herself through school and went on to have a long career as a middle school teacher in the Jefferson County Public Schools system, in Louisville, KY, retiring in July 1996.
Raised in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, Vina learned the value of hard work, the joy of cooking, and a lifelong love of athletics. She was a devoted fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. After retiring, she embraced a new chapter of travel, exploring the world with fellow teachers. She was an active member and leader in the service sorority, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, treasured her church family, and delighted in her growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vina was a fabulous cook. Her Mississippi mud cake, carrot cake, and chocolate gravy were legendary. She loved square dancing, bunco, bowling, jarts, and card games, especially Rook and Hand and Foot. She was competitive until the end: no letting the grandkids win unless they earned it, and absolutely no talking across the table during cards.
In her later years she enjoyed camping with her extended family and remained devoted to family reunions on both sides of her family. She was a blessing to all who knew her.
Vina was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Beck; her parents, Hays and Mary Stamper; along with her siblings, Harold, Harry, Hayward, Donald Reed, and Waldo Stamper and Ida Mae Frazier. She is survived by her sons, Greg (Cindy) and Herbert Fields; a brother, Herbert Stamper; grandsons, Andrew (Shaela), Zach (Amy), Ethan (Kristen), and James Fields; granddaughters, Micaela Dale (Brock), and Danae, Kara, and Grace Fields; her great-grandchildren, Barrett Dale and Andersyn, Reid, Cade, Palmer, Millie, Andi Jane, Leighton, Charlotte, and Carter Fields; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A service celebrating Vina’s life will be held 3:00 p.m. CST Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Long Hollow Baptist Church (Gallatin Campus). Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
A graveside will be held 3:30 EST Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Mount Washington Cemetery, Mount Washington, KY. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m. EST at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, Mount Washington, KY.
The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Clarendale and Capstone senior living facilities and to the staff of Highpoint Hospice.
