Rita “Gram” Elaine Aita DuMont (age 79) of Hendersonville, Tennessee returned home to our Lord on July 26, 2021.

Rita was born in Nashville on November 23, 1941 to the late Vernon and Clara Mai Aita. She was raised in Nashville and never lived more than five miles from Gallatin Road. She was a graduate of Isaac Litton High School class of ’59. Rita is survived by her sister, Lynn Kieffer (Harvey) of Florence, Alabama.

She is survived by her loving sons, Kevin (Susan) and Kent; her three beloved grandchildren: Brittany (Charlie Johnson), Koby (Dani), and Bailey (Matthew Miller); and her great-grandchildren John Parker DuMont, Baylor DuMont, Essie Grae Johnson, Chandler DuMont, and Janie Miller who were all the lights of her life.

She is also survived by her nieces Shannon (J.J. Johnson) and Ashley (Michael Alexander) and her nephew Courtney Morris. She loved her grand nieces and nephews Jonathan Johnson, Drew Morris, Zach Morris, Clara Grace Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Sarah Alexander, and Emily Alexander.

After retiring from health care Rita began substitute teaching in Sumner County middle schools. She was loved by many teachers and students and subbing brought her great joy.

To know Rita, or Gram as many know her, was to love her. She fearlessly spoke her mind and loved her people so well. She was always dressed to perfection and had an amazing fashion sense. Her family is grieving the loss of her but finds peace knowing she is in the presence of the Lord.

Rita was a long-time member of the Church at Indian Lake in Hendersonville. She loved her church and especially enjoyed her Tuesday Bible study group. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation to her church in her memory.

A celebration of a life well-lived will take place on Sunday, August 1st at 3:30 at the Church at Indian Lake in Hendersonville.
