Mahlon “Scorch” Willoughby, age 87 of Gallatin, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at his residence.

He was born in Giles County, Tennessee to the late William and Mable (Smith) Willoughby.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Willoughby; brothers, Odell Willoughby, and Gilbert Willoughby.

Mr. Willoughby spent over 50 years in the shoe and boot business, having worked for Genesco, Wrangler Boot Company, and eventually owning Willoughby’s Shoe Shop here in Gallatin. He also spent many years coaching little league baseball, and truly enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy Ann (Brown) Willoughby; sons, Jerry Willoughby (Joyce), Jimmy Willoughby; grandchildren, Sandy Harrison (Jonathan), Lee Willoughby (Stacey), Jeremy Willoughby, Justin Willoughby (Kelly Ann); great-grandchildren, Shane Harrison (Danielle), Eli Willoughby, Vera Willoughby, Arthur Willoughby, Charlie Willoughby, and Ty Daniels; great-great-grandchildren, Madison Keene, Wilder Harrison; brother, Michael Willoughby (Linda); sisters, Orlene Moore, and Wilma Gaines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Peace officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sumner Memorial Gardens Mausoleum where Lee Willoughby, Jeremy Willoughby, Justin Willoughby, Shane Harrison, Jonathan Harrison, and Mitch Currey will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
