John P. Crafton, age 91, passed away on May 17, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife and family.
Mr. Crafton was born in Portland, Tennessee to Fred and Lila Mae Eden Crafton in 1933. Mr. Crafton graduated from Sumner County High School and was drafted into the Army. He was stationed in Munich, Germany for two years. When he returned to the States he went to work for Pirelli Armstrong, where he retired after 30 years of service. Mr. Crafton worked the rest of his life farming with his son and grandson.
In addition to Mr. Crafton’s parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dr. James A. Crafton.
Mr. Crafton is survived by his loving wife, Betty Louise Kitchens Crafton; son, John P. Crafton, Jr. (Sara Ann); daughter-in-law, Kim Crafton; sister, Joyce Ann Crafton; grandchildren, Jennifer (Calen) Jones, Emily (Josh Lambert) Crafton, Mary Helen (Matt) Daeley, John Austin (Olivia) Crafton, & Elizabeth Crafton; step-grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth (Al) Marashi & Matt Hooper. He was also blessed with five great grandchildren, Brantley Suddarth, Catherine Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Hattie Crafton, & Millie Crafton.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Portland on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM with the funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Crafton, Austin Crafton, Calen Jones, Matt Daeley, Josh Lambert, & Tommy Crafton.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Shanna Wheeler, Tammy Cook, Teresa Brooks, NHC Homecare and Gentiva Hospice.
