James Earnest Whitehurst, age 87, of Hendersonville, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021.
He was born on October 1, 1933 to the late Dr. Alto Lee Whitehurst and Malissa Dunn. He was a Navy Veteran, serving from 1952 – 1961. James married the love of his life on May 20, 1960 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and was later transferred to Tennessee, where he then graduated from MSTU with his bachelor’s degree in fine arts. He dedicated 32 years of his life working for the Long Hollow Golf Course.
Painting was his passion. Springhouse in Smyrna invited him in for a three-month show in the summer of 2018. That was a crowning moment for him.
James is survived by his wife, Barbara Spencer; daughters, Angela Sati of Hendersonville, and Lisa (Dr. Gerald) Madler, of Columbus, Georgia; 1 niece, Kristine Hansen, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; nephew, Curtis Bonner, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; along with 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, 353 East Main Street, in Hendersonville, at 12 P.M. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 A.M.
