Edith Fischer-Hardy, 102, entered Heaven on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, surrounded by many family members in Gallatin, TN. Born Edith Agnes Cunningham on October 28, 1923, in Hamblen County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ida Cunningham.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Carl Marquess; husband Karl Fischer; husband Lester Hardy; brother Robert Murray Cunningham; great-grandson, Jordan McClanahan; son-in-law Larry McClanahan; and, Jason Nichols, fiancé, to granddaughter Marta McClanahan.
She is survived by daughter Betty McClanahan; step-daughters Robin Liebe, Arden Ward, and Karen Blanks (John); step-son Lucky Hardy (Susan); sister Evelyn Jenkins; nieces Debbie Coats (Phil) and Joyce Gleason; nephew Murray Cunningham; grandchildren Michael McClanahan (Jennifer), Marta McClanahan, Meridith Stephens (Jason); great-grandchildren Paige Hannigan (Jack), Cody McClanahan, (Tyler Adkins), Tyler Beene (Abigail), Daniel McClanahan (Katherine), Alexis McClanahan, Haley McClanahan, Jack Dyer (Zakk), Madeline Grace Dyer, Anne Claire Dyer, Sophia Hannigan, Ella Hannigan, Adaline Hannigan, Braelynn Hannigan, Emmanuel Hannigan; and great-great-grandchildren Charlotte Herrington, Ayden Gonzalez, Asher Beene, and Amani McClanahan.
Known affectionately by her grandchildren as Gram and her great-grandchildren as Great-Gram, she spent her childhood years in Dover, TN, where her father was lockmaster for the US Army Corps of Engineers. She was a long-time member of Madison Church of Christ before moving to Gallatin and joining Rehoboth United Methodist Church. She loved life on Old Hickory Lake and spent much of her time with her daughter, her sister, and her grandchildren. She lived through the Great Depression, World War II, and 17 different US presidents.
