Celeste Ione White, nee. Chapman was born on May 18th, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2024, in Gallatin, Tennessee. She was a cherished individual whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Celeste was a proud graduate of Lambert High School, Class of 1945. Her thirst for knowledge and personal growth led her to further her education at Union University, she laid the foundation for a life marked by curiosity and learning.
She was a devoted fan of Mississippi State University, passionately supporting her team through thick and thin. Her love for sports extended to the Chicago Cubs, where she celebrated their victories and endured their challenges as any true fan would. Additionally, Celeste had a keen interest in NASCAR races, often found glued to the screen, enjoying the thrill of the race.
Celeste is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Edwin Dean White; parents Ralph and Nellie Chapman; her birthmother Ione Sills; half-brother George Grant; and adoptive brothers James Coe, Ikie Coe and Robert Coe.
She is survived by her children James Lester White (Karen Lubinski) and Rebecca Elgenia Cook (Peter Cook), five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-granddaughter. Although she is gone, she is not forgotten.
In honor of Celeste’s life services will take place at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, Tennessee. Visitation will take place on October 31, 2024, starting at 8:00 AM and concluding at 10:00 AM. This will be followed by a funeral service, beginning promptly at 10:00 AM. Celeste will then be laid to rest during an interment service located at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Rd, Memphis, Tennessee.
