Barbara Lueth Fleming Obit

Barbara Lueth Fleming – Age 103 of Nashville, TN. October 13, 2025. Preceded in death by husband, Jim Fleming, great-granddaughter, Savanna Martin; and all of her siblings. Survived by sons, Jim Fleming (Barbara) and Tom Fleming (Kathy); daughter, Sandi Martin (Steve); grandchildren, Chris Martin (Amy) and Laura Martin; great grandchildren, Clara Martin, Colin Martin, Addie Pickerel and Charlie Pickerel.

Barbara Lueth Fleming was born in June 1922 and raised in Champaign, Ill. While in high school, she took secretarial and bookkeeping courses. Upon graduation, she began her career using the skills she had acquired. It was in Champaign at an ice-skating rink where she met her husband, Jim. He was from Nashville and was in the Army Air Corps, stationed at Rantoul, ll. They were married in 1943, and she stayed behind with family while Jim served overseas during World War II. Upon his return, the couple moved to Nashville in 1945. They made the Woodbine area their home and welcomed three children, later followed by two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

After her three children were in school, Barbara resumed her secretarial career at Hillwood Presbyterian Church, where she worked for 20 years. Living in the area for over 60 years, Barbara and Jim were very active in the community. They were charter members of Glencliff Presbyterian Church and Barbara has served as a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader and an active participant in community and church projects. After retirement, Barbara and Jim delivered Meals on Wheels to residents in the Woodbine area.

Their vacations and weekends were filled with camping trips, fishing and boating until their children left the nest. They traveled across the country over the years, visiting family, friends and places unknown. By 2008, Barbara had been a widow for just over a year and wanted to be closer to family. Her daughter and family lived in Hendersonville, and Barbara found Park Place in July 2008 and has been there ever since. Barbara remains a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville and participates in daily activities at Park Place, including exercise classes, Bingo, playing cards and other special events. Her advice for a healthy life during the golden years is “to stay active.”
