Barbara Carol Kirkendall, age 89, of Hendersonville passed away on January 24, 2025.
She was born on January 22, 1936 in Connersville, Indiana to the late Clifford Palmer and Maxine Hayslett. She lived a life full of warmth, creativity, and dedication, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
For over 30 years, Barbara worked as a talented cosmetologist in retail.
Barbara was not only skilled in her profession but also in the art of nurturing family traditions. She found immense joy in the kitchen, where she spent countless hours creating delightful family meals. Among her many culinary feats were her famous homemade marshmallows, strawberry jelly, and the best homemade pie crust, which perfectly cradled her delectable pumpkin and sugar cream pies. These cherished recipes were a testament to her love for cooking and her desire to gather loved ones around the table.
An avid reader and devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves, Barbara’s interests extended beyond her kitchen. She enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was a Farmtown enthusiast, often finding joy in her digital pursuits. Yet, above all, Barbara’s proudest accomplishment was her family; she found greatest joy in the warmth and love they shared together.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, DeWayne Kirkendall; her sister, Sandra Anderson; her brother, Stanley Plamer; her sons, Keith and Kevin Kirkendall; her daughter in law, Joanna Kirkendall; and her daughter in heart, Michelle Boyer.
Barbara is survived by her six children, Rick Kirkendall (Sandy), Jeff Kirkendall, Gary Kirkendall (Donna), Jon Kirkendall (Lisa), Sheryl Bartlett, and Brandi Locke (Chris); her fifteen grandchildren, Craig Kirkendall (Neeli), Daniel Kirkendall (Brooke), Kara Bishop (Christopher), Ashley Callis (Jake), Danielle Litte (Barry), Amber Fish (TJ), Jonathan Bartlett (Jackie), Kyle Bartlett, Cassie Williams (Logan), Kayla Kirkendall, Autumn Bartlett, Michael Locke, Alayna Kirkendall, Haley Bartlett, and Morgan Locke; and her twenty-one great grandchildren, Katelyn Kirkendall, Caxton Kirkendall, Cannon Kirkendall, Connor Little, Zachary Little, Easton Fish, Briley Cooper, Capri Cooper, Hattie Beth Kirkendall, Eden Cooper, D Walker Kirkendall, Drake Kirkendall, Job Callis, Ava Sayar, Xander Sayar, Jaxson Bartlett, Sawyer Bartlett, Kamden Bartlett, Wyatt Williams, Emma Williams, and Zachary Williams.
Visitation will be held at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Hendersonville, TN, on January 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow. https://www.hendersonvillefh.com
