Two Sumner County Schools educators have been selected from a national pool as semifinalists for the CMA Foundation’s prestigious Music Teachers of Excellence (MTOE) Award. Congratulations to Lucy Alegria of Gallatin High School and Laura Gabriel of Hendersonville High School on this outstanding achievement!

The CMA Foundation—a national music education nonprofit and the philanthropic arm of the Country Music Association—announced 222 public school music teachers nationwide as semifinalists for the program.

“Access to music education should be a part of growing up in America, and we are proud to celebrate the public school teachers that are at the forefront of providing that education to students,” said Tiffany Kerns, Executive Director of the CMA Foundation.

Semifinalists represent 43 states and the District of Columbia. Half teach at low-income public schools, nearly three-fourths have 13 or more years of teaching experience, and nearly four in 10 have taught for more than 20 years. Educators recognized in the program represent a wide range of disciplines, including band, choir, orchestra, general music, music technology, mariachi, AP music theory, musical theater, world percussion, opera, and history of jazz.

Congratulation to Mrs. Alegria and Ms. Gabriel! We wish them the best as they continue on in the competition.
