About the Sumner Prevention Coalition:

Mission & Vision
The mission of the Sumner Prevention Coalition is to unite people with vision, commitment, and resources to provide solutions to eliminate substance abuse and make a difference for youth, families, and individuals in Sumner County. We envision a healthy, safe, and thriving community free from substance abuse.

Coalition History
Sumner County Criminal Court Judges Jane Wheatcraft and James Hunter and District Attorney General Ray Whitley established the Sumner County Anti-Drug Coalition in 2006. On a daily basis they dealt with adults in the community who were being arrested for some type of crime that involved the use of alcohol and/or drugs. The magnitude of the problem was overwhelming. They determined that substance abuse was a community problem and the best way to effectively address it would be to bring all sectors of the community together in a coalition.

Since 2006, The Coalition has grown and grown strong community roots. We are currently funded primarily by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services’ Established Coalition Block Grant, the SPF RX grant, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as part of the Drug Free Communities Support Program.
