Families in Sumner County can now apply for Pre-K for the 2026–27 school year.
Children who will be 4 years old on or before August 15, 2026 are eligible to apply. Children who turn 5 on or before that date are kindergarten-eligible and not eligible for Pre-K.
Sumner County Schools offers three Pre-K options:
• Tennessee Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) – state-funded seats for eligible families
• Head Start Pre-K Partnership – federally funded seats for eligible families
• Tuition-Based Pre-K – peer-model seats for typically developing children
Families should review eligibility requirements and complete the Universal Pre-K Application, which serves all programs. After applying, families should watch for any screening or documentation requests. Placement notifications will be sent once application reviews and any required lottery processes are complete.
District officials note that VPK and Head Start seats are awarded based on eligibility criteria, not the order applications are received. Some students may be placed on a waitlist, and all families will receive updates at the same time.
