Sumner County School Teacher Sets Guinness World Record for Decades of Service

Westmoreland High School is celebrating a historic milestone after longtime educator Glenda Akin was officially recognized by Guinness World Records for the longest career as a female teacher at the same school.

Akin’s career at Westmoreland High School spans more than six decades, totaling 61 years and 43 days of continuous service. During that time, she taught generations of students, many of whom credit her with shaping not only their education but their lives beyond the classroom.

School officials described the achievement as a point of pride for the entire community, noting that Akin’s influence reaches across multiple generations. Current Westmoreland High School Principal Rick Duffer was once one of her students, underscoring the lasting impact of her dedication.

Sumner County Schools praised Akin’s commitment to education, calling the Guinness World Record a reflection of a legacy that will be felt for years to come.

The recognition places Westmoreland High School on the international stage while honoring a teacher whose career has become part of the school’s history.
