Portland High School’s Robotics team made an unforgettable entrance at their first-ever competition, proving that hard work, teamwork, and innovation lead to success! Competing in the 2nd Annual Shamrock Showdown in Erin, TN, the team of 17 students took on the VEX V5 Robotics challenge—and came home with some impressive hardware.

  • Techno Divas earned the Judges Award trophy, showcasing their excellence in design, teamwork, and performance.
  • Metal Mayhem secured 3rd place overall, ranked 2nd in qualification rounds, and claimed the title of 1st overall defensive robot!
  • Tech-Nadoes demonstrated outstanding character and sportsmanship, earning recognition as the Judges Award runner-up.

More than just a competition, VEX Robotics provides students with hands-on experience in problem-solving, engineering design, programming, and critical thinking—skills that are essential for careers in STEM fields. As they navigate the fast-paced challenges of robotics, they’re also learning how to adapt, innovate, and work under pressure, preparing them for futures in engineering, computer science, and even entrepreneurship.

The team is coached by Brandon Murphy and assistant coaches Justin Short and Quinten Wilson. We are so proud of these students and can’t wait to see where their journey takes them next!
