Stephen “Steve” Wayne Spalding, 78, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024.
Born on October 29, 1945, in Gallatin, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Wayne Spalding and Elizabeth Haynes Spalding.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn Ward Spalding.
Steve enjoyed a long career, retiring from Genesco after 49 years of dedicated service.
Steve’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life. His warm and welcoming nature was evident as he greeted fellow congregants at Highland Park Church or shared a kind word with those in need, always extending a helping hand to others, whether through a comforting message or a thoughtful gesture.
Steve loved bowling, golfing, and spending time by the water, a passion that started in his youth when he served as a lifeguard. Annual trips to Florida with Gwen were a cherished tradition, allowing them to enjoy time with lifelong friends, the warm climate, and the beauty of the ocean.
Steve is survived by his children, Stephen W. (Maggie) Spalding Jr., John Michael Spalding, and Rachel (Robert) Elliott; eight grandchildren, John Michael (Julie) Spalding Jr., Bryce Roehrich, Meghan E. Spalding, Sophia R. Spalding, Jacob W. Spalding, J. Carson Spalding, Julia J. Spalding, and Kale B. Roehrich; and his sisters, Kay Beasley (son Jeff Fisher) and Jane Proctor (daughter Stephanie Randazzo).
A joint “Celebration of Life” service for Steve and his late wife Gwendolyn will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 10:00 with a half hour of visiting prior to the service at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Pike S, Nashville, TN 37216. https://www.springhillfh.com
