Sherry Denise Thornton-Pruitt, age 59, of Portland, passed away on July 14th, 2026 at Highpoint Health-Sumner in Gallatin, TN. She was born in Portland, TN on October 23rd, 1966 to the late Willard Alton Hobdy & the late Mary Agnes Gregory.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt was preceded in death by her son, Keith Pruitt; grandparents, Clara & Morris Gregory.
Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt is survived by her husband, Merlin Pruitt of Portland; children, Kendra (Chad) Pearson of Portland, Cherry Pruitt of Portland, Samantha (Jonathan) Burgett of Westmoreland, & Megan (Jacob) Smith of Portland; grandchildren, Kirstian, Mason, Kailyn, Emma, Hayden, Caroline, Karlee-Jo, & Magnolia; “Adopted Mama” Mama Patty; adopted children and grandchildren & all her fur babies.
Funeral service for Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 17th, 2026 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Victor Creasy officiating.
Interment will be in Caldwell Cemetery in Westmoreland, TN.
Visitation for Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt will be on Thursday, July 16th, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm & on Friday, July 17th, 2026 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.
Chad Pearson, Mason Pearson, Jacob Smith, Johnathan Burgett, Jeremy Hammonds, & John Koussonmbus will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home (P.O. Box 628- Portland, TN 37148) to help the family offset funeral expenses for Mrs. Thornton-Pruitt.
