OBITUARY: Sheri Moss Platt

Sheri “Moose” Platt, age 61, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Born in Gallatin, Tennessee on October 16, 1964. She worked for Manchester City Schools. She began her career as a cafeteria worker and later became Cafeteria Manager. For 28 years, she found great joy in serving the students and staff, leaving a lasting impact through her kindness and dedication. Sheri was the cherished daughter of Roger Moss and the late Betty Moss. She grew up with a vibrant spirit and a competitive edge, showing a natural talent for athletics. She excelled on the softball field, a passion and skill she later passed down to her daughter, Stephanie, whom she proudly coached and cheered on. Sheri also had a deep love for music of all kinds, with a special fondness for the anthems of the 1980s, especially bands like AC/DC and Journey. She loved playing the drums and brought that same energetic, rhythmic joy into every aspect of her life.

To know Sheri was to know someone who truly loved to have fun. She was an absolute kid at heart, famously diving headfirst into neighborhood games of kickball and hide-and-seek, matching the children’s energy and determination step for step. Her competitive, joyful nature was a constant source of laughter for her family, especially during their cherished Florida vacations. Her family will forever laughingly remember the time Sheri fell off a banana boat ride, leaving everyone on board laughing so hard they could barely speak while trying to wave down the jet ski to turn back and rescue her.

Beyond her playful spirit, Sheri was a woman of immense positivity and profound compassion. She had an boundless love for animals, keeping four-legged companions by her side throughout her entire life. She will be missed by her loyal dogs, Reese, Kingston, and Snickers, and leaves behind a legacy of love for the roughly 50 cats she rescued and cared for over the years. That desire to help others extended even beyond her passing; in a final act of generosity, Sheri donated her pacemaker to help give someone else’s pet a better quality of life, perfectly reflecting her lifelong desire to support a good cause.

Sheri was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Betty J. Moss, and her grandparents, Buford L. and Evelyn G. Holt, Clarence and Catherine Moss; in-laws, Laban H. and Virginia Platt; and nephew, Corey Gipson, great niece Savannah Freeze and fiancé Daniel Gassman and her uncle Robert L. Holt, and brother-in-law Raymond Hittson.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to be cherished by her father, Roger Moss; her daughter, Stephanie Platt; her son, Brandan Platt; and her sisters, Debbie Wilson and Becky Hittson. She is also survived by her granddaughter Caleena Platt, nieces and nephews, Christy Moss, Dustin Moss, Micah Gipson, Corey Gipson, RayLynne Duncan (Alex), and Ryan Duke, as well as a large circle of great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family members who loved her dearly.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 5:00 PM in the upcoming week. The final date and time will be scheduled and updated on the funeral home website.

In lieu of flowers, family asks for memorial donations to be made to the Coffee County Humane Society.
