Mrs. Ruth Ann Hodges Somerville of Portland, Tennessee went to glory on March 26, 2022, she was 78 years old.

She was born on February 8, 1944 in Portland, Tennessee to the late Raymond and Marguerite Farran Hodges.

She married the love of her life Lloyd “Popeye” Somerville after meeting him on a double date. The rest was history. They raised two strong men of God; Steve, a successful businessman, and contractor, and Terrell, a church planter and pastor.

Ruth could be found many mornings sitting at a piano at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist or listening to her son preach at Freedom Church. She was a peaceful, kind, and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was also a jack of many trades; a talented seamstress, a secret artist, a master gardener, and an unlicensed veterinarian. Ruth was the life of every party, always had a story to tell, and her laughter was contagious. Her presence will be dearly missed by her entire family.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Steve (Amy) Somerville and Terrell (Shanda) Somerville; brothers, Ronald (Rose) Hodges, Warren (Melissa) Hodges; sister, Trudy Conover; granddaughters, Savannah Somerville, Lauren Somerville, Lydia Somerville, Lily (Cody) Freeman, India (Caleb) Goostree, and Chloe (Jared) Pedigo; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd “Popeye” Somerville; brothers, Leon Hodges and Alfred Hodges; sisters, Betty Joyce Hodges and Carolyn Barnard.

Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, March 31st at 1:00 PM at Freedom Church in Gallatin, Tennessee with Pastor Terrell Somerville officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church Cemetery with Cody Freeman, Caleb Goostree, Jared Pedigo, Jeff Somerville, Jerry Somerville, Lanny Somerville, Deon Russell, and Neno Russell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Eden and Randall Prock. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, March 30th from 4:00-8:00 PM at Freedom Church in Gallatin, Tennessee, and Thursday, March 31st from 10:00 AM until time of service.
