Roy Thomas Hendrick, age 79, of Portland, Tennessee went to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 24th, 2022.

Mr. Hendrick was born in Portland, TN on November 28th, 1942 to the late William Thomas Hendrick & late Bessie Irene Morrow Hendrick.

In addition to his parent, Mr. Hendrick was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hendrick; daughter, Barbara Lee; sisters, Frances May & Barbara White; brother, Wayne Hendrick.

Mr. Hendrick is survived by his daughter, Amy (Steve) Somerville of Cross Plains; grandchildren, Mary Lee of Burns, TN, Elizabeth (Jedediah) Hanes of Dickson, TN, Savannah Somerville of Cross Plains, TN, Lauren Somerville of Cross Plains, TN, & Lydia Somerville of Cross Plains, TN; great-granddaughter, Nora Hanes; sister, Jo Burris of Franklin, KY.

Mr. Hendrick was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. After the military, he worked in tool/dye & he worked as an engineer for L & N/Seaboard System Railroad/CSX Railroad, where he received the Sentinel Award. The Sentinel Award was proudly awarded by Seaboard System Railroad to Mr. Hendrick for saving a driver from his wrecked, burning truck near Brush Creek, TN on January 18th, 1984.

Most of Portland and surrounding communities know Mr. Hendrick from his Sumner County High School quarterback playing days, where he was proudly awarded MVP & was part of the Class of 1961. Football, fishing, and being a licensed pilot were some things that Mr. Hendrick enjoyed in his life.

Funeral service for Mr. Hendrick will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Colovos officiating.

Visitation for Mr. Hendrick will be on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm & on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home. https://www.wilkinsonwiseman.com
