A Pleasant Shade Community homemaker, Mrs. Ronda Rich, transitioned from this earthly life on Sunday night November 24, 2024 at the age of 76. With her husband and daughter at her bedside at the Highpoint Health – Riverview Emergency Room, the Lord called her home at 10:07 p.m.

Her pastor, Eld. Scott Rigsby will officiate at her 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon November 27th funeral services assisted by her nephew, Eld. Jason Rich which are to be conducted at the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Shade Cemetery with a nephew, Eld. Jackie Rich officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 26th at Sanderson in Carthage from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Wednesday November 27th the visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral services.

Mrs. Rich was born Ronda Eloise Crotty in Pinoak in Mercer County, West Virginia on March 31, 1948 and was the tenth of twelve children, four daughters and eight sons born to the late John Millard Crotty who died at the age of 61 on August 10, 1977 and Edna Wavy Walker Crotty who died at the age of 74 on November 27, 1983.

Mr. and Mrs. Rich were preceded in the death by a son, Jeffrey Monroe Rich who died on March 19, 2015 at the age of 36 following a battle with cancer. Also preceding them in death was a daughter-in-law, Monica Kaye Birdwell Rich who died August 4, 2007 at the age of 36.

Mrs. Rich was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Dean Crotty Davis and Deanna Crotty Kade and by six brothers, Carnis, Elman, Kayford, Richard, Rancil Devon, and Glenn Crotty.

She was a 1966 graduate of Matoaka High School in Matoaka, West Virginia. On December 30, 1967, she was united in marriage to Pleasant Shade Community native, Gerald Lee Rich. The ceremony was solemnized at the Lashmeet Primitive Baptist Church where her father, an ordained Primitive Baptist Elder, officiated the ceremony.

Mrs. Rich will be best remembered for her position as a bank teller for Smith County Bank, working mostly at the Highway 25 Branch. She began employment with the bank on August 14, 1993 and her career ended following twenty-five years of service on her 70th birthday on March 31, 2018.

The soft-spoken, kind and gentle spirited lady so loved her family and was respected by all who knew her. She was a member of the Pleasant Shade Upper Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband Gerald of almost fifty-seven years, are their two surviving children, John Rich and wife Deborah of New Market, Alabama, Angela Rich West and husband Rickey of the Pleasant Shade Community; daughter-in-law, Ashley Rich of Fayetteville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Allyson West of the Pleasant Shade Community, Allyssa West Tejeda and husband Anthony of Dayton, TN, Alexis West Matoy and husband Sam of Hendersonville, Dennis West of the Pleasant Shade Community, Martha Chole Rich of Fayetteville, Miriam Rich and Brooklyn Rich both of New Market, Alabama; two great-granddaughters, Lennox Long and Kaliyah Hassell; a sister, Artha Dell Crotty Knoefel of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Merrill Crotty and wife Barbara of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Kenny Joe Crotty and wife Judy of Princeton, West Virginia.

The Rich family has requested memorials to the Pleasant Shade Cemetery mowing fund.
