Roger William Phillips (Flounder), Jr., age 54 of Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 5th, 2022.

Roger was born in Dubuque, Iowa March 26th, 1968.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Cindy (Patten) Phillips. He is also survived by his sons, Timothy Phillips, Mike (Jessica) McComb, grandson Greyson, granddaughter Rosalie, mother Barbara Phillips, sisters Diane (Jeff) Martin, Carrin (Nelson) Merritte, and brother Don (Stephanie) Phillips and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Roger William Phillips Sr., and daughter Aimee Lynn Dotson.

Roger moved to Hendersonville with his family in 1980 and attended Knox Doss and Hendersonville High School, graduating in 1986. He played football for HHS, earning the nickname “Flounder” by his high school friends. Due to his love of football and working with kids, Roger went on to coaching football for several years at Drakes Creek Park for the Hurricanes where he first met Cindy, his wife to be. They were married in 1999.

He was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburg Steelers and was usually to be found wearing one or the others jersey to solidify being a passionate fan of both.

During high school and thereafter, you would find him working at Lowes of Hendersonville for many years and later in life, working at Robert J. Young and Nova Copy in Nashville.

Roger was not a stranger to anyone and would strike up a conversation, especially if it was about sports, as he loved to talk about what interested him the most. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, having family gatherings, and just hanging out and connecting with friends, as often as he could. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather to all, and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be given at Hendersonville Memorial Gardens, on September 17th from 2-4 PM officiated by Pastor John McLendon of GodWhy Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be given to the American Heart Association.
