Robert ‘Ned’ Scruggs of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022, he was 82 years old.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was born in Independence (Bucksnort), Mississippi on August 20, 1939, to the late James Homer and Effie Orelia (Anglin) Scruggs.
Ned loved Jesus and was a wonderful example of a godly man. His favorite things to do were spending time with his wife and family, traveling the world, playing games, and watching his grandkids grow up. He could put a smile on anyone’s face with his great sense of humor and wealth of jokes he always had at the ready.
Ned never met a stranger. He would learn details about those he crossed paths with and could recall those details years later. Not only did he take a sincere interest in everyone around him, but he also loved to share stories of his past. With the help of his phenomenal memory, he could paint a picture so vivid, you felt like you were there. His mind was like an encyclopedia of his life and the lives of those he encountered. He could recall exact dates, names, places, the weather that day, and what was at each exit off the highway. He used his gifts to make those around him, especially his family, feel valued, special, and loved.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force followed by a 30-year career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration. In retirement, he volunteered for 11 years at Ridgecrest Christian Conference Center and 10 years at the First Baptist Family Ministry Center in Hendersonville. He served with Tennessee Disaster Relief and was a fervent prayer warrior.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue Dancy.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Scruggs; children, Vicky (Matthew) Meadows of Bethany, Oklahoma; Becky (Ralph) Stebbins of Hendersonville; Donald Scruggs of Torrance, California; grandchildren, Melissa and Tim (Jennifer) Meadows; Nathan and Emily Stebbins; and Andrew and Adam Scruggs; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Hailey, Jaxon, and Hunter Meadows; brother, James Scruggs of Coldwater, Mississippi; and many extended family members and friends. Though we have lost this bright light, the impact and legacy that Ned leaves behind will continue to shine forever.
A celebration of Ned’s life will be on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior at First Baptist Church, Hendersonville in the chapel. There will be a private family burial at Hendersonville Memory Gardens after the service. https://www.hendersonvillefh.com
